Work In Progress

Will I be able to finish on time?

Will I have to cut a scene?

Am I too ambitious?

After starting the creative process, my final project will consist of 2 scenes around 1 min each. I have already written and planned out these scenes, to make the directing and editing process easier.

What Changes have I had to make?

  • I had to cut Scene 3, due to lack of time.

There are multiple factors that I would have needed to change to be able to do all three scenes.

Have more time before the submission date.

Not have written each script.

Have a partner direct the different scenes.

Have the equipment longer than the school allows.

Have known how the equipment works. ( Although I know a lot about cameras, I have never rented kits from the school, therefore this will be a quick learning opportunity. I hope all goes well, however, we will see when I get the equipment. )

  • The schedule has been greatly changed since filming has been advanced.

I think it would have been possible for me to follow the schedule if I would have started earlier and if I had rented the equipment longer. However, due to the lack of time to travel to the school and get said equipment, I can only film the weekend of April 17th.

  • The scenes are longer than anticipated.

I think the scenes are gonna be around 1min10sec and 1min30sec each. I could have made the scripts shorter, however, I felt as if the scripts needed to be this length.

  • I might have to make the editing much simpler than anticipated.

I order to not make this an issue, I will be filming the scenes in full, and in sections, therefore if I do not have time during the editing process I can simply take the full take.

Moreover, I have already pre-prepared what scenes are going to be where and when there will be cuts. I have planned out the post-production, to trim off extra work in the future.

How do these two scenes connect with the theme and each other?

The reality in extreme fantasies, job-related or body-related, both show the reality of living an "ideal" way of life. One leading to success and the other to self-destruction. Dreams and Deceit intertwine with each other. Not-contained dreams can be deceitful and or lead to success.

Moreover, these scenes have a deeper meaning, than they appear to. As I mentioned in my project proposal, the first scene reflects my own dreams and aspirations that are larger than life. The second scene reflects my unrealistic "dream" to look a certain way. This scene reflects the eating disorder and the body dysmorphia I have lived with. It reflects unreachable dreams.

These scenes tell a cautionary tale. To be wary of those unrealistic dreams and strive for the possible. To know which one is healthy or not. To continue fighting and work hard for those dreams, as they might come true. But always, reminding oneself to "keep yourself in check."

These scenes are not long enough to show their entire meaning, but they hide a much deeper meaning.

As mentioned at the top of this page, I had to cut out the third scene, because of lack of time and because of the amount of work involved. By cutting out the third scene, I will be able to focus on the two scenes more and make them as good as possible.

Quality over quantity.
